Bibliography

The link below will take you to a listing of relevant literature on bryophytes in Texas. The literature for these groups in the state is scarce; therefore, many regional and national scope materials are also included because they do cover at least some part of the state.  This bibliography is by no means exhaustive; instead it is intended to serve as a starting point for learning about these groups. Several references are included that are of a more general nature (biology, ecology, etc.) which may serve as an introduction to the broader subject of bryology. Texas Bryophyte Bibliography

Specimen Data

At the present time there are no specimen records available on this site. However, the Bryophyte Portal is available for searching multiple collections at once.  This site is an invaluable resource for specimen data throughout the United States and includes a wide range of data for each collection. A brief guide to some basic collecting methods and additional considerations is available at the link that follows. This paper will hopefully serve as a beginning reference for anyone wanting to collect bryophytes, especially for deposition in a herbarium.

BRYOPHYTE GLOSSARY

There are many terms and definitions that will aid in understanding much of the content on the associated pages within this website.  Many of these terms are applicable to all three groups of bryophytes. A simplified glossary is provided here Bryophyte Glossary. An extensive (on-line) glossary is also available through Janice Glime’s excellent Bryophyte Ecology website. Another useful site is the Missouri Botanical Garden’s botanical Latin page.
